Junk car removal in Greater Grand Crossing, between the rail lines
Greater Grand Crossing is named for a real crossing: in 1853 the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern and the Illinois Central railroads crossed here at grade. The tracks were separated in 1912, and the Metra Electric 75th Street station now sits at 75th and South Chicago Avenue, right at that old crossing. Railroads and the Dan Ryan still shape how you get around, and that’s why this page has more to say about access than most. We pick up all over the area as part of junk car removal across Chicago: free towing, paid at pickup.
The community area is a set of older neighborhoods: Grand Crossing, Brookline, Essex, Brookdale and Park Manor. Most of the bungalow streets went up in the early 1900s. The Red Line stops at 69th and 79th Streets. Oak Woods Cemetery, established in 1854, takes up a big piece of the map, and Parkway Garden Homes is here too. Either makes a good landmark when you describe where the car is.
Pickup notes for Greater Grand Crossing
- Near the Dan Ryan or the rail lines? Some blocks dead-end at an embankment. Give the cross streets and say whether the truck should come in from the alley or the street.
- Car in a garage off the alley? Say whether the garage door opens onto the alley, whether the car rolls, and what’s stored in front of it.
- Car at the curb? Tell us which side of the street and the nearest cross street. If it has sat for more than a week, read our guide to Chicago’s abandoned car rules.
- Flat tires or no keys? Normal. Read cars with no keys or flat tires so you know what to tell us.
How it goes
Send the year, make, model and title status. We call with an offer. The truck comes to the car, the driver checks it matches what you described, you show your paperwork and you’re paid at pickup. No title in hand? We can still help. Tell us which papers you’ve got, like a bill of sale, the registration or an insurance card. Illinois rules set which of them a scrap sale can use, and we’ll tell you where you stand on the call. Same-day pickup is often possible.
Awkward spot? How junk car towing works covers alleys and garages. Next door in Englewood, Chatham or South Shore? We cover other South Side neighborhoods too.
